Privacy Policy
Last updated: 30 August 2026
The Chamber Music Center of New York is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit music education organization. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, and what we do with it. It applies to our website, our application and enrollment process, and our advertising.
INFORMATION WE COLLECT
When you apply to a program
Our application is a form that asks for the student's name and age, the instrument they play, the parent or guardian's name, an email address, a phone number, a home address, the name of the student's private teacher, how you heard about us, and anything you choose to write in the questions box.
When you pay us
Application fees, deposits and tuition are paid by PayPal, Zelle or check. Card and bank details are handled by those payment providers. We do not see or store them. We keep a record that a payment was made and for what.
When you respond to one of our ads
If you fill in a form attached to one of our ads on Facebook or Instagram, we receive the name, email address, phone number and instrument that you submit. Meta also provides us with anonymous, aggregated statistics about how our ads performed. Meta's own handling of your information is governed by its privacy policy, not ours.
When you visit our website
Our website is hosted on Squarespace, which sets cookies that are necessary for the site to function. We also use Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager to understand how people find and use our site, which records information such as the pages you view, roughly where you are, and what kind of device you are using. When you first visit, a banner asks you to accept cookies.
At our events
We take photographs and video at concerts, rehearsals, masterclasses and other CMC events.
HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION
- To process applications, arrange auditions, and make admissions decisions
- To run our programs and communicate with families about schedules, rehearsals, concerts and travel
- To invoice for tuition and administer scholarships and financial aid
- To send occasional news about CMC events, concerts and programs. You can unsubscribe at any time
- To promote CMC using photographs and video, where we have permission
- To understand which of our programs and outreach are working, so we can improve them
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We do not use it for automated decision-making.
WHO WE SHARE INFORMATION WITH
We share information only with the service providers we use to operate, and only to the extent they need it:
- Google, for our application form, our email, our document storage, and website analytics
- Meta, for advertising on Facebook and Instagram
- PayPal, for online payments
- Squarespace, for hosting our website
We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or where it is necessary to protect the safety of a student.
STUDENTS UNDER 18
Our programs are for young musicians, and most of our students are under 18. Applications are submitted by a parent or guardian, and we ask that all information about a student be provided by a parent or guardian rather than by the student themselves.
We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from a child under 13 without a parent or guardian's involvement. If you believe a child has given us information without a parent's knowledge, contact us at info@chambermusiccenter.org and we will delete it.
A parent or guardian may ask to see the information we hold about their child, correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to us at info@chambermusiccenter.org.
PHOTOGRAPHS AND VIDEO
We photograph and film our events, and we use that material in our programs, on our website, in our newsletters, on social media, and in grant applications and fundraising materials. We ask families for permission to do this when a student enrolls.
If you do not want your child photographed or filmed, tell us at info@chambermusiccenter.org and we will note it in our records. If a photograph or video of your child has already been published and you want it removed, ask us and we will remove it from anything we control.
HOW LONG WE KEEP INFORMATION
We keep application and enrollment records for as long as a student is with us and for seven years after they leave, so that we can keep accurate financial and program records and write references for alumni. Marketing contact details are kept until you ask us to remove them.
YOUR CHOICES
- You can unsubscribe from our emails using the link in any message, or by writing to us
- You can ask for a copy of the information we hold about you or your child
- You can ask us to correct anything that is wrong
- You can ask us to delete your information, subject to records we are required to keep
- You can ask us not to photograph or film your child
To do any of these, email info@chambermusiccenter.org. We will respond within 30 days.
CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
If we change this policy we will post the new version on this page and update the date at the top. If the change is significant, we will tell current families by email.
